D-Day 80: Return to Normandy
Official American Airlines Photography Initiative
In 2024, I was selected as one of only 31 photographers nationwide by American Airlines to photograph World War II veterans as part of the official D-Day 80 Return to Normandy initiative. This invitation-only project documented veterans from across the United States as they prepared to travel to France for the 80th anniversary of D-Day—a once-in-a-lifetime historical commemoration.
Coordinated by American Airlines’ Military and Veterans Initiatives team in partnership with Old Glory Honor Flight, the project focused on honoring some of the last living WWII veterans, with an average age of 100. Working within tight ethical, logistical, and emotional parameters, the portraits were created to respectfully capture both the individuals and the historical weight of the moment. The resulting images were used in American Airlines’ official press, internal communications, and public-facing D-Day 80 commemorations.
